Center for Healthcare Information Management and Systems (CHIMS) is a one-of-a-kind multi-disciplinary research center at UIC dedicated to conducting cutting-edge research on health information systems and management. Housed at the College of Business Administration, CHIMS is the home for scholars, experts and researchers drawn from the Colleges of Engineering, School of Public Health, Medicine, Applied Health Sciences and Business Administration. CHIMS conducts applied and academic research in the areas pertaining to health information management and health informatics. Through collaboration with our strategic partners, CHIMS faculty and staff work on applied research projects that seek to spur technological and process innovations in healthcare, to assess the impacts of technological interventions and to educate the next generation workforce in healthcare informatics. MISSION: Our core mission is to advance the research and practice in health information management. T hrough a trans-disciplinary approach that capitalizes on the inter-linkages among business administration, information management, computer science and healthcare sciences, CHIMS brings together research expertise from across multiple departments and colleges in UIC to conduct applied research that expands the knowledge frontiers in health informatics, and also improve the practice of health informatics with a specific focus on the State of Illinois. The center's broad mission is to understand how healthcare information can be effectively managed, exchanged and utilized through innovations in i nformation technologies, systems, business processes and organizational policies governing health information management. |
